This video is known as the ‘Shift Happens’ video / ‘Did you know?’ video (concept and presentation originally created by Karl Fisch, Scott McLeod, and XPLANE). This video went viral when it was first introduced on the net and this version has been used Sony BMG as presentation to its top executives in 2008.
I was recently shown this video and I looked it up on the net and found several versions. Since this was made in 2008 the data is slightly dated (nevertheless shocking). The fact that many of the numbers in this video are already outdated drives home the point.
There are a few newer versions of the ‘Did you know?’ video especially highlighting the social media phenomenon but none of them so hard hitting.
Things are changing at an unbelievable pace and the world that you know today will not exist in the same form within a significantly smaller time frame than the most of us can even imagine.
A very simple example - How many phone number do you need to know now? How many phone numbers did you need to know five years ago? How many of these phone numbers do you remember? Your phone does! You don’t need to!! The human brain has already begun outsourcing its memory functions to electronic devices and the internet to cope with information overload.
Change is imminent and I don’t think anyone of us is prepared.
Well we can’t be. We don’t know what to prepare for.
Just go with the flow.
