Somewhere in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra

Dmitry was completely drenched by the unrelenting monsoon rains as he ran in the dark through the thick forested hilly slope. Every few seconds the flashes of lightning illuminated the surroundings and he moved ahead gingerly not sure where he was headed. As he was trying to cross a mini stream and he suddenly tripped and fell into the water. He rolled in the gushing torrent for a few meters before his hands could grab onto some grass and shrubbery. He managed to pull himself out of the water. It was three hours since he had escaped and the ex Alfa Group soldier of the Russian FSB Special Operations knew that only his training had got him this far. He only had his skills, his mind and his bare hands to rely on to help him get out of that place in one piece. Doggedly, he kept going on.

It had taken Nick Slaughter ten minutes to reach the Taj Palace hotel from the American Embassy. He quickly hurried towards the Durbar Hall where the conference on the ‘Strategic Global imperatives In The New Milieu’ was being held. He spotted John Grant looking busy on his cell phone at the lobby just near the entrance.
“Hi.” he said as saw John moving toward him.
“Lost in the Action. The big Russian has disappeared”, John said softly without wasting any time.
“Yes we know that”, Nick replied.
“That’s all you know. None of us know why he was here, what he was up to and who got him.”
“I suspect you guys know something. Open up.”
“Project Energia – Does it mean something to you?”
“No.”
“Not to me either”, John said and walked away.
Nick walked up to the Durbar Hall where the hotel staff pushed open the door to let him into the large room.
